This course covers the pharmacology of drugs used in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiprotozoal, and anthelmintic agents. Emphasis is placed on mechanisms of action, antimicrobial spectrum, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, drug resistance, and principles of rational antimicrobial therapy.

PHC461 – Principles of Pharmacology | Course Description

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of pharmacology and provides the foundation for understanding how drugs interact with the human body. It covers routes of drug administration, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug–receptor interactions, and mechanisms of drug action. The course also introduces drug interactions, adverse effects, toxicity, and factors affecting individual responses to drugs, helping students understand the basis for the safe and rational use of medicines.
